Miners on HIV Risks

BHP Billiton — the world’s largest mining company — said for every dollar it invests in HIV training, education and medical programs the return is four-fold in terms of benefits such as re-training, absenteeism and productivity.

That quote alone is convincing. I appreciate the candor of the companies in this article on HIV and mining, Is HIV a time bomb under the mining industry?

Most important, I think, is the observation that having a small number of cases one day is no guarantee that you won’t have a full blow crisis the next.
